Some jobs do not belong in a browser. Real-time signal processing, instrument control, high-frame-rate visualisation, USB and serial devices, sites with no reliable internet — all of it wants native code on the machine.
We write desktop software in C++ with Qt and in Python, and we have shipped it: radio control software talking to hardware over UDP, MIDI and CAT interfaces, spectrum and waterfall displays rendering continuously, offline booking systems that sync when a connection appears.
Where it makes sense we build hybrid: a native core for the demanding part, a modern interface layered on top, and a cloud service behind it so data is never trapped on one PC.

Choose desktop when you need hardware access, guaranteed offline operation or heavy real-time processing. Choose web for anything shared across locations where rollout and updates would otherwise be painful. We will tell you honestly which one fits — and sometimes the answer is both.
Our production work is Windows and Linux. Qt does target macOS, so it is technically possible, but we would scope Mac support explicitly rather than assume it, because the testing and signing effort is real.
Yes, and it is a pattern we use often — the desktop application holds a local database so it keeps working offline, then reconciles with a cloud API when the connection returns.
We ship an installer with an update channel built in. The application checks for a new build, downloads it and applies it on next launch, so you are not emailing links around.
